Last night (surprisingly for nowadays) I discovered an intriguing film titled The Best Offer about an eccentric auctioneer who carefully and continuously collected original female portraits throughout his lifetime and in the end fell in love with nothing but a forgery.

Another must-watch Italian drama from Sicilian-born Giuseppe Tornatore, director of international hits such as Cinema Paradiso, The Legend of 1900 and Malena. This movie shows a man who in his profession is able to distinguish the authentic and the fake, but not in his life. He is not able to look women in the eyes. He can only do this through paintings.

Giuseppe Tornatore, Enio Maricone and Geoffrey Rush offer us a beautifully crafted masterpiece and fascinating story full of philosophy and art, obsession and love, suggesting that something authentic is always and forever hidden in any forgery, while warning that everything can be fake, everything such as joy, pain, illness, recovery...even love.
