Black is not a color. Edouard Manet

“Personally, I am not greatly interested in what is said about art. But, if I had to give an opinion, I would put it this way: everything that has a sense of humanity, a sense of modernity, is interesting; everything that lacks these is worthless.” Edouard Manet, recorded by Antonin Proust.

Edouard Manet, the man whose work marked the beginning of Modernity, is arguably one of the world's most influential artists. He was inspired by Old Masters, such as Velasquez, Goya and Titian, often incorporating their motifs into his canvases.
